The fees range from €30 to €135 and are based on your age, the world bank index (WBI) of your country and your work position.

Affiliate Membership fee
The cost of becoming an Affiliate member depends on the WBI of the country where the affiliate is located, and the number of members or employees the national society, blood centre or blood service has.
National blood transfusion societies, blood services and blood centres in lower middle and low income countries (according to the WBI) pay €1,- per member/employee, with a minimum of €100 for blood centres and blood services, and a minimum of €200 for national societies.

How do I join as a new member?
To join as a new member, please click on the button "Join online" and complete the process. Make sure you fill in your accurate details i.e. your country, position and age as this affects your fee.
You will be taken to the payment section where you can choose to pay by credit card, If you don't have a credit card, please send use a bank transfer as an alternative.
How much do I need to pay for a membership?
The amount you need to pay for one year membership of ISBT, depends on your country (WBI), age and position. Please refer to the "Fee structure".
Can I receive an invoice for the membership fee?
Yes, invoices are available under My account/order history
When does the ISBT membership year start and end?
The ISBT membership system is annual rolling. Therefore it runs for a year from the day you join/ renew with a 30 day grace period.
I am younger than 35, but the fee is still too high?
The system has generated the fee based on a different date of birth. Please contact the ISBT Membership Department at to ask to reset your fee.
How do I renew my ISBT membership?
Please log in and go to you "My subscriptions" page. If you are not a member yet (see “How do I join as a new member").
I forgot my password.
Please click on “Forgot your password?” (you need to enter the email address that is currently in the membership database). If you still have any difficulties please get in touch with the ISBT Membership Department.
How can I update my email address?
Please go to your 'My profile ' page to update/ change any details.
I have not received the latest Vox Sanguinis.
Please first check that your address details are still correct in the membership database (you can view and edit your address details by logging in and going to My Profile). If you need access instructions to the Wiley website, please get in touch with the ISBT Membership Department. Have you considered reading the Vox online only?
I don’t have a credit card, how do I pay for the membership fee?
A Bank transfer is an alternative. The bank details are available on your invoice, found under My account/Order history

Individual membership
Individual membership is for individuals who have demonstrated a sustained interest in the field of blood transfusion medicine and science or related disciplines. Individual membership includes:
- Access to ISBT Education (including congress webcasts and presentations)

- Receipt of the monthly E-news

Affiliate membership
Affiliate membership is open to National Blood Transfusion Societies, Blood Services and Blood Centres. All Affiliate members will be required to name one representative, who receives the same benefits as an individual member
The named representative will be the main point of contact between ISBT and the Affiliate (yourselves). We will ask them to communicate with their Affiliate members matters to do with the ISBT affiliate membership. The representative can also add members to the website so to access the Affiliate Suite. All other members of your organisation will get complimentary access to a selection of material on the ISBT Education portal . This selection of material, under the Affiliate Suite, includes presentations from past congresses (webcasts and learning quizzes), some recent and past webinars an educational eBook and the international Guideline library.

Honorary Membership is a recognition of those, long-serving members, who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of the society. This membership is a lifetime appointment with all benefits of a full, individual membership and it is given by invitation only. Membership dues are waived for honorary members.
Current Honorary Members
Peter Flanagan
Peter currently works as a Transfusion Medicine Specialist with New Zealand Blood Service based in Wellington having previously been the National Medical Director of NZBS for over 20 years. He has been closely involved with ISBT as a Board member from 2006, and subsequently President between 2012 and 2014. He chaired the Standing Committee on Ethics from 2016 until 2022 and played a key role in the development of the updated ISBT Code of Ethics. He has been the President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT), is a member of the WHO Expert Panel on Blood Transfusion and has also been closely involved with transfusion activities with the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM) and Council of Europe for 20 years.
Exempt Membership
The exempt membership is open to people who are interested in becoming ISBT members but have difficulty covering the membership costs and live in a low, lower or upper-middle WBI country. It offers the same benefits as the individual membership.
