ISBT-128
Is ISBT the same as ISBT-128?
No, ISBT stands for “International Society of Blood Transfusion’’. The ISBT-128 standard is for labelling blood components and was named as such because it was originally developed within the ISBT several decades ago.
The ISBT-128 standard is now administered by ICCBBA, independently of ISBT. Whilst ICCBBA has kept the name ISBT-128 in recognition of the role the ISBT as a society has played in the development of the standard, today ‘’ISBT-128” means ‘’Information Standard for Blood and Transplant’’.
