Welcome words from ISBT

Dear Fellow Transfusion Professionals and Colleagues,

On behalf of the South African Society for Blood Transfusion, the ISBT Board of Directors, and the ISBT Central Office, we cordially invite you to the 34th Regional ISBT Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. It has indeed been a while since an ISBT Congress was held on the African continent in 2008, and the Cape Town Congress will be only the second in-person ISBT Congress since 2019, following the pandemic. Our colleagues in South Africa and Africa are excited to host and learn with, the broader global transfusion community.

The ISBT Scientific Secretary, Jason Acker, and the Local Organising Committee are developing an exciting programme that will provide knowledge-sharing opportunities ranging from cutting-edge science to the challenges of delivering comprehensive blood services in resource-constrained environments. We hope that there will be many opportunities during the Congress, for South Africa and Africa to learn from the rest of the world, and vice versa.
The Congress venue is the world-class Cape Town International Convention Centre. The four-day programme will certainly keep everyone busy and involved.

Day 1, the local day, will include content for everyone based in Africa. Days 2-4 will include scientific sessions, academy sessions, workshops and poster presentations. Content for the sessions will range from presentations from global experts to research outputs from developing researchers. We anticipate strong support from local and global industry partners and promise a comprehensive trade exhibition, which will also host the Sunday evening welcoming gathering.

There will be many opportunities to network and socialise, both within the offerings of the Congress and also independently in Cape Town and its surrounds. Cape Town is consistently ranked in the top 10 cities in the world and is known for its natural beauty, including the iconic Table Mountain, excellent restaurants and wine farms, vibrant culture and history, great weather and affordability.

We look forward to hosting you at the 34th Regional Congress of the ISBT, in Cape Town!
