Information Technology (IT) is a critical part of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy which comprises recruitment, collection, testing, processing, distribution, transfusion/transplantation and quality. IT supports fast and easy access to process data generated in the blood supply chain, including manufacturing, labelling and inventory, facilitating and improving compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Specific goals include:
a. To define and promote strategies on using information technologies for transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, and related areas considering usability, implementation, financial, and business impacts.
b. To evaluate new IT technologies and their applicability to transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, and related areas.
c. To provide education for the membership in Information Technology.
Current Leadership
Karen Moniz
Karen Moniz, MHA, MT(ASCP)SBB, has been the Technical Director at ICCBBA, Inc, since 2020.
Karen is responsible for leading the technical development of the ISBT 128 Standard to meet the changing traceability, labeling, and coding needs for medical products of human origin (MPHO). She studied medical technology at the University of Kentucky, specialized in immunohematology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and studied healthcare administration at George Washington University. Karen has decades of management experience in the management of blood donor centers, transfusion services, and biomedical information technology. She was an early advocate for the implementation of the ISBT 128 Standard and remains enthusiastic about the future of the Standard to contribute to MPHO traceability, biovigilance, and electronic data transfer in addition to supporting ongoing harmonization of terminology in all sectors of medical products of human origin.
Rishiraj Sinha
Dr Rishiraj Sinha is a Senior Resident Doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India specialised in Transfusion Medicine with a 5.5-year MBBS program followed by a three-year MD residency at one of India's leading medical institutions at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal. His mission is to guide and educate physicians and develop in-depth skills in transfusion medicine, expertise to treat patients, and support other physicians and technical staff in delivering optimal transfusion medicine-related care and also the transfusion medicine physicians in training focus on implementing their knowledge in support of direct and indirect patient and donor care. He is eager to engage in clinical and research activities, particularly in areas such as immunohaematology, transfusion safety, apheresis, and novel therapies like stem cell transplantation, where his enthusiasm and experience can contribute to innovative advancements in the field.
