@WP we could make this also expandable content (or in tabs next to each other). We can also include here: previous chairs, photo gallery (suggestions from the powerpoint that Nicole provided)
About us
The Working Party on Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology develops and maintains the genetically based numerical terminology for red cell surface antigens – the “blood group systems and antigens”. By definition, these antigens must be serologically defined with specific antibodies, shown to be inherited, and assigned a unique ISBT number.
We curate the official registry of blood group systems, antigens, and alleles, set nomenclature guidelines, and address issues related to molecular typing and gene analysis. Members serve as experts for specific blood group systems and actively contribute to continuously development nomenclature.
The Working Party currently has 34 members.
Activities
Our work combines continuous background tasks with visible milestones. We maintain and update the international blood group database – essential but often unseen groundwork. At the same time, we convene in Business Meetings held alongside ISBT congresses, where new blood group systems and antigens are ratified by the members. The outcomes of these meetings are documented in scientific reports, usually published in Vox Sanguinis.
Subgroups
The Working Party currently has one formal subgroup: cfDNA, chaired by Frederik Banch Clausen.
